Bringing Truth To Power As An Investigative Journalist
In 2015, I transitioned from the health and medical unit to the investigative team at NBC Southern California, taking on a new challenge as an investigative journalist. This role allowed me to tackle stories that had a tangible impact on the lives of residents and to bring truth to power by uncovering wrongdoing and exposing injustices.
My work as an investigative journalist covered various topics, from investigating pesticides in medical marijuana to stopping a housing scam artist and uncovering food safety concerns. However, my most significant achievement was our "LA's Nuclear Secret" series. This three-year, multipart investigation broke new ground on a story that spanned decades and impacted the health of tens of thousands of local residents.
The "LA's Nuclear Secret" series was one of the most challenging assignments of my career. We spent countless hours researching and reporting on the story, which involved investigating a former secret nuclear and rocket testing facility located in the hills of Simi Valley. Our work uncovered a decades-long cover-up by government agencies and private companies that resulted in widespread contamination and health risks to local residents.
As an investigative journalist, I was committed to holding those in power accountable and bringing stories that might otherwise remain hidden to light. I am proud of the impact our reporting has had on the community and am grateful for the opportunity to use my skills as a journalist to make a meaningful difference in the world.
